Rae joined the lab in January of 2026 as a directed studies student conducting research for the lamprey sex determination project. She began by working with germline specific primers to determine which genes are present in male vs. female lamprey through PCR and gel electrophoresis. She currently works on the histology portion of the project, making and analyzing larval lamprey microscope slides to collect information on male vs. female gonad size.          ​
